Troops enter Oddusudan
The war heroes engaged in operations to liberate the North from the brutal LTTE have entered Oddusudan, another terrorist stronghold.
The troops of Task Force Four advancing towards the North after capturing Nedunkerni, succeeded in entering the Oddusudan township this afternoon. The victory was achieved by troops of the 14th Sinha Regiment headed by Major U.S.N.K. Perera and under the guidance of Lt. Colonel B.T. Hathnagoda, Head of the 642nd Brigade. Oddusudan is a military strategic location and is located along the MankulamMullaitivu A-34 Highway. Oddusudan was an administrative and supply centre of the LTTE outfit. Many roads linking Mullaitivu, Puthukudiyirippu, Mankulam and Nedunkerni runs through Oddusudan. The gallant soldiers are continuing operations to further consolidate their positions in North and West of Oddusudan. |

Re - Evolution vs. Naturalism

In a nut shell, Plantinga argues that evolution (in the naturalistic sense, unaided by god) has a low probability of producing reliable cognitive faculties. Without such reliable cognitive faculties, the odds of forming true believe are low. If the odds that our having true beliefs is low, then we should rationally not believe we have true belief. If we should rationally not think that we have true believe then we should not have confidence in our beliefs based on our cognitive faculties, such as our believe in naturalistic evolution.
The first major problem with this argument is that it makes the wrong headed assertion that there would be no selective pressure to form senses that render more or less accurate information about the external world. One simply needs to ask themselves "which has a greater survival value? Eye that tell me more or less what is out actually in front of me, or eye that more or less render my head up my ass?". Clearly, if there truly is an external world, our senses evolved to attune with it. Also, when it comes to forming beliefs and inferences about the external world, again, getting things correct poses a greater survival value then believing gibberish and making bad inferences. So, I reject the claim that the odds that evolution would give us unreliable cognitive faculties, and instead argue that the opposite is far more plausible, given a moment's reflection.
Second, if god designed our cognitive faculties, then the fact that they are less then 100% accurate is just another example of "god's mysterious ways". No to mention the fact that we have to use said cognitive faculties to think, argue and convince ourselves that god has done any such thing. Therefore, such a position is equally "self defeating". |

Murray, Utah -- Some people just can't wait to open their Christmas presents. That apparently was the case with a short and very fast thief who went to a store in Murray, grabbed a present and made a clean getaway on all fours.
At Smith's Food & Drug in Murray, a popular place these days is the manager's office, where they have the surveillance video. "You had to see to believe it, but it happened. So, it's crazy," said Tracy Jacobson, with Smith's Food & Drug.
A suspicious character entered through the front door. "I've never seen him shop in here before; brand new customer, didn't even have his Fresh Value card," store manager Roger Adamson said.
What happened next is already becoming legend. "I mean, how likely is that? For a dog to walk into a store, go down the pet aisle, get his bone and walk out?" Jacobson said.
Let's reconstruct the crime a step at a time: Entering at the checkout area, the dog approached a young girl. "He just kind of sniffed the customer up, and then headed down the aisle," Adamson said.
At that point, he had a decision to make: Left? No dog food. Right? Dog food. He turned right and went straight to aisle 16, the dog food aisle.
There are so many fun Christmas presents he could have picked, but he seemed to know exactly what he was after. He grabbed a rawhide bone and headed down the aisle, only to be confronted by the manager.
"I looked at him. I said, Drop it!'" Adamson said. "I decided I wanted to keep all my fingers, so I didn't try to take it from him. He looked at me, and I looked at him, and he ran for the door and away he went, right out the front door."
Marshall Tanner with Alpha Dog Training says the culprit's sense of smell is 100,000 times better than the typical crook.
"[He] smelled the rawhide bone, grabbed it and walked out of the store, thereby being a shoplifting dog!" Tanner said.
At last word, the dog was still at large, presumably enjoying his Christmas gift. "He's enjoying the heck out of it," Tanner said.
The value of that bone is $2.79. Merry Christmas, Balto, wherever you are!

DeAndre Brown Breaks Leg New Orleans Bowl

Southern Mississippi receiver DeAndre Brown fractured his lower left leg and was taken to the hospital during the first quarter of Sunday nights New Orleans Bowl against Troy.
Only minutes after his 67th reception of the season set a school record, Browns leg gave out unnaturally as he landed in the end zone during a long incompletion. The defender on the play, Tavares Williams, put his hands on his head and then gestured for help when he turned and saw Brown holding his leg, which dangled from the shin.
Brown writhed in pain as trainers raced to his side. He was placed on a stretcher and lifted onto a cart. He then sat up, receiving applause, as the cart headed into the tunnel in the Louisiana Superdome.
Southern Miss spokesman Jack Duggan said the injury was a lower leg fracture but could not immediately provide details on the severity.
Brown, a freshman, was a prized recruit last year and quickly became the Golden Eagles leading receiver, finishing the regular season with 66 catches for 1,108 yards and 12 touchdowns. |

America won the first leg of the Colombian championship final on Wednesday, beating Independiente Medellin 1-0 away.
In Uruguay, Nacional went down to a shock 2-0 defeat against modest River Plate, allowing Danubio to pull level with them at the top of the championship's first stage with one match to go.
COLOMBIA
Victor Cortes scored a second-half goal as America took a big step towards winning their 13th championship and equalling the record held by Millonarios.
Cortes turned in Pablo Armero's pass to finish off a counter-attack in the 63rd minute and silence the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
Medellin had more possession but rarely threatened Adrian Berbia in the America goal.
America, who dominated Colombian football during the 1980s but have more recently been hit by financial problems, also reached the final of the Apertura championship in the first half of the season before losing to Boyaca Chico.
Their most recent title was the 2002 Apertura.
Medellin coach Santiago Escobar, whose brother Andres was murdered in 1994 shortly after scoring an own goal at the World Cup in the U.S., said his team would not give up.
"I have full confidence in my team," he said. "We can still turn this result around. We are going to Cali to make a game of it."
URUGUAY
Danubio pulled level with Nacional at the top of the championship's first stage after both teams failed to win.
Both have 29 points from 14 games while third-placed Racing, who won 4-1 at Villa Espanola and are two points behind, also have a chance.
Nacional slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against River Plate, led by flamboyant former Uruguay coach Juan Ramon Carrasco.
Henry Gimenez gave Danubio a a first-half lead and was the most dangerous player on the field until he was bizarrely substituted by Carrasco in the 43rd minute after being booked.
Carrasco often substitutes players who are given yellow cards as part of his unusual disciplinary code.
Nacional attacked desperately in the second half only for Nicolas Nicolay to snatch a second for River in the last minute.
Danubio twice led against Central Espanol before being pegged back for a 2-2 draw.
Diego Ifran headed them in front but Fabian Coelho levelled with a penalty before the match swung Danubio's way near the half hour when Central keeper Sebastian Sosa upended Ifran in the area and was sent off and Sergio Leal converted the penalty.
But Central levelled again in the 72nd minute when Francisco Silva headed in from a corner.
Danubio had Damian Malrrechaufe dismissed and Central finished with nine men when Guillermo Firpo was sent off.
